The Fashion Forward Millennium

With more technologically advanced universities emerging in Islamabad, the Fashion Industry has seen marvels in the work of upcoming designers. To learn more about how these exceptional facilities help the fashion students, the team at Rejuve had an exclusive sit down with three remarkable ladies studying at The Millennium University College, Islamabad.

Ms. Shaheerah Illyas, Ms. Simra Shahid, and Ms. Hania Naqvi are currently in their second year of Bachelor’s in Fashion Textile Designing. Coming from different backgrounds, they all found their true calling when they entered the university and first set eyes on the labs and equipment offered in the Fashion Department. Ms. Simra left her business degree mid-way and through her father’s support, joined the program at TMUC. Ms. Hania, who had always had an interest in fashion did not realize that TMUC would actually be the place to learn and grow. Her initial idea of going to Lahore for pursuing a fashion degree was quickly forgotten when she met the faculty and attended the various workshops arranged by the department. Ms. Shaheerah was adamant on getting a fashion degree since her O-levels and when she learned about the external degree on Fashion Textile Designing, her decision of choosing TMUC became even easier.

All three ladies recognized the professional edge the external degree gave them, while they studied and worked in Pakistan. A two-year program that is acknowledged internationally became the main interest which led to their enrollment in TMUC. Rarely do we come across a university providing international fashion degrees with the same level of services that one gets when they are studying abroad.

Added from this, the students also found it very convenient to connect with fashion students from all around the world. The facilities at the fashion department are designed as such that the alumni are constantly providing assistance to the new entrants in every way possible. The insights offered by experienced members of the university are something that the girls found unique and admirable.

Apart from the infrastructural benefits, the professors and teachers of the Fashion Textile Designing degree have been a real support for the ladies. Ms. Shaheerah has stayed back one too many times stuck on some project yet her teachers have never reprimanded her for this. In fact, they put in extra time and effort to make sure she understands the workings and the theatricals that form the basis of the practical assignments.

For Ms. Simra, the practical assignments hold more value and as guided by her teachers, she has quickly learned the art of picking the right fabrics for her styles. What may seem like a very easy task, is actually a time consuming process and only the students of the Fashion Textile Designing degree understand the value of the resources being given to them at TMUC.

Ms. Hania, a perfectionist, has found refuge in the way things are conducted at TMUC because for her, personal satisfaction is the key to any good design piece. Being at TMUC has allowed her to explore more of her own artistic identity and when she gets stuck somewhere, her teachers are just a message away. The detailed analysis offered by the teachers on each design piece created by the girls is not usual in fashion departments of other universities in Pakistan. The feedback system here is definitely more streamlined

In any fashion degree, the amount of exposure plays a vital role in the growth of students. For these girls, the overall experience attained by studying at a university which has business, media and other departments has made them more confident about their future plans. They do not fear entering the competitive Pakistani Fashion Industry because they believe they have what it takes to achieve excellence. We wish them good luck for their future endeavors.
